The annual meeting of our association was held this year on May 5/2012, at the courtyard of Beit Terezin and in the clubroom of kibbutz Givat Haim Ihud. The day began with the traditional social gathering of our members of all generations, at our renovated courtyard.
The participation of members of the second and third generation was very evident, they visited our historical museum and the exhibitions. In connection with our project, of scanning all folders in our archives, that began in 2011, the archives will be closed for about a year. Therefore Beit Terezin invited all interested members, to order their families’ files so as to be able to peruse them. This was an opportunity to see and to learn their families’ stories through documents given by their parents to our archives. All those who applied could view the files. At the same time members of the third generation met with our chairman prof. Eli Lawental and the representative of the third generation Roni Rak, a member of our steering committee. The aim was to establish a group of members of the third generation who would take an active part in the activities of Beit Terezin.
At the gathering in the clubroom of the kibbutz, the Czech ambassador to Israel, Mr. Tomas Pojar honored us by his attendance and greeted those present. As usual, our chairman prof. Eli Lawental opened the assembly. For the second generation, Rani Idan, spoke about the importance of Beit Terezin. The general manager of Beit Terezin Oded Breda reported on the activities of the previous year. Our member Yehuda Manor told the participants about the publishing of his new book
“Hatayesset shehimriyah mehashoa” (The Squadron that took off from the Holocaust). Our member Pavel Korn invited a Czech quartet ensemble that had arrived in Israel to participate in the “Prague Days” taking place during May - June in Israel. The members of the ensemble played and sang parts of their repertoire, old folksongs many remembered from childhood,
old tunes with new, actual texts.
The musical part was accompanied by Pavel Korn on his accordion. Finally - the assembly re-elected prof. Eli Lawental as chairman, confirmed the list of members of the steering committee for the following year and endorsed the financial report for the previous year.
