The Firefighters are Coming

Hedera Firefighters Visited Beit Terezin

After the black days in December 2010 experienced by the firefighters working hard to ‎extinguish the fire raging on the Carmel mountain ridge, we invited the firefighters from ‎the Hedera station as a sign of appreciation, to visit Beit Terezin and to learn about the ‎Firefighting Department in the ghetto.‎
The head of the Emek Hefer District Council, Rani Idan and the director of Beit Terezin, ‎Oded Breda welcomed the firefighters and their commander. As a gesture of ‎appreciation, the station commander Isachar Tohami, received a picture of the ‎firefighting vehicle in ghetto Theresienstadt with the firefighters commander Eng. Leo ‎Holzer standing beside it.‎
The study day, held on February 8, 2011 opened by the moving testimony of the ‎Holocaust survivor Miriam Oypert who was a child during WWII. The firefighters visited ‎our historic exhibition and learned about the life of Jews in the ghetto and their will to ‎survive in an abnormal reality. They visited also the exhibition “Kamarad”, learned about ‎the life of children and youth and about sport and the “LIGA TEREZIN”. Finally they got to ‎know about the firefighter’s story, Eng. Leo Holzer, about the equipment at their disposal ‎and the help they rendered everywhere in the ghetto.‎
