The Czech ambassador in Israel Mr. Tomáš Pojár, who began his tour of duty this month, visited Beit Theresienstadt together with the Press and Culture attaché Ms Marina Šternová. Mordechai “Maxi” Livni and his wife Chava, who were among the founders of Beit Terezin, related the history of the institution and the reasons for its establishment; Alisah Schiller, one of the founders, described a meeting she had with Tomáš Pojár’s father, Miloš Pojár, who was the Czech ambassador in Israel 20 years ago. Prof. Eli Lawental, chairman of our association, recounted the aims of Beit Theresienstadt and its uniqueness for Holocaust education in Israel – and the need to upgrade cooperation between the Czech embassy and Beit Theresienstadt. Oded Breda described the present activities and the challenges lying ahead. The new ambassador promised to support the aims of Beit Theresienstadt in various ways and to put Beit Theresienstadt on the itineraries of governmental visitors and delegations of educators; he accepted our invitation to be guest of honor at our annual meeting in May 2010. Our association welcomes the visit with appreciation and wishes the ambassador much success in his new post.
